With the opportunity to create databases of your photos and highlight, star or flag particular images, organising your workflow with Lightroom is much simpler than in Photoshop or Adobe Bridge.
Photoshop however, requires Adobe Camera Raw for this kind of processing, at least initially. Photographers who take their pictures in the recommended RAW format can upload their collections straight to Lightroom and begin working in the same layout as one would find when editing lossy files such as JPEGs or PNGs. There's also greater compatibility with new cameras and lenses. Machine-learning now powers Lightroom for automatic subject or sky selection with the press of a single button. Selective editing tools such as the adjustment brush and radial filters now utilise colour and luminance ranges for more refined masking. Not only will it synchronise the edits made to photos, but specific metadata such as keywords, ratings, or labels are also easily applied across a range of images. Lightroom users are able to synchronise edits across a range of images simultaneously, saving time and effort. Lightroom (rather than Lightroom Classic) is also easier to operate on touchscreen devices such as iPads and smartphones. Lightroom's interface is less complex than Photoshop, which makes it easier to pick up for newcomers or those with editing experience in other softwares.

Lightroom Classic is favoured by professionals who need more editing tools and a more complex organisational element. It's linked to the cloud in an integral way, meaning any edits are synchronised across devices immediately.

Lightroom is designed for more casual users, its user interface is simpler and cleaner, making it easier to operate across desktop and portable touchscreen devices, available on desktop, iPad, and iOS or Android. It should be noted that there are two versions of Lightroom: Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Lightroom is known for its non-destructive editing and sophisticated batch processing features, useful mainly for photographers and image editors, whereas Photoshop favours layers based editing and is useful for photographers, image editors, graphic designers, illustrators, animators and many more creative types.

The CC version obviously operates differently from a revenue recognition perspective, which allows new features to be added without the same constraints as the perpetual license version.īottom line is that LR6 perpetual is no different to all the other LR previous versions in the way that updates are delivered, it's the CC model that's different.There are clear differences between the two software packages. Unfortunately, the release of 6.1 fell outside the accounting period of the 6.0 launch, hence no new features for the perpetual license version. At the risk of being scolded by John Beardy again, I'll just say that Adobe cannot/will not/have always chosen not to include new features in any dot release unless the dot release falls within the same financial accounting period as the initial launch of the version (so for example only 4.1 and 5.2 got new features in the version 4 and 5 cycles).
The reason for that is nothing to with any attempt to "drive users to the subscription model", as many conspiracy theorists like to maintain, but has got everything to do with the way that Adobe's revenue recognition procedures are set up. LR6 perpetual will follow exactly the same path as all previous LR versions, the only difference being that it didn't get any new features in the first dot release. possibly some features updates in the first "dot release" of the cycle, but all subsequent "dot releases' were the bug-fix/new camera support type. And that pattern is exactly the same as in all previous LR versions, i.e. We did get some small feature updates in 5.2, but all updates after that were simply bug-fixes and new camera/lens support. For a start, there was no 5.1.in order to align the numbering systems of ACR and LR, we skipped 5.1 and went directly to 5.2 from 5.0. This is not accurate.we did not get "free feature updates" in LR5 with updates 5.1 to 5.7.
